City Walls - Sunset Tour
You can't go wrong with Dubrovnik at sunset in general. But visiting the city walls while the sun is sinking towards horizon? Spectecular views guaranteed.
Almost two kilometers long, with heights of 15 to over 50 meters above sea level, this UNESCO monument offers breathtaking views of the vastness of the Adriatic Sea and the skyline of the old town. The tour begins at the meeting point in front of the tourist information center, right next to the "Pile" bus stop. After buying the tickets, without detours, we go straight to the city wall. Once at the top, your climbing effort is immediately rewarded with a wonderful view of the Stradun, the main street of the old town.
After a few photos have been taken and a short introduction, we head towards the southern part of the walls. Passing towers and fortresses we get to the sea side. Steep cliffs, crystal clear water and an endless horizon are just a few of the many highlights that we encounter there. On the way to the historic port of Dubrovnik, you will also learn something about legends, such as the ones about Lokrum, an island within sight of the wall.
When you reach the port, you have completed half of the route and the second part of the tour begins. It starts with an ascent near the east gate of Ploce. The north side presents you with a wonderful panorama of red terracotta roofs and numerous bell towers of the churches and chapels in the old town. On the way to the Minceta Tower you will learn about the recent history of Dubrovnik, the chapters of Yugoslavia and the Homeland war in the 1990's. Last but surely not least is the grand finale of this tour on top of the Minceta Tower. The highest point on the city wall offers a stunning view that makes this experience unforgettable.
